Some experiences stick with you forever. For Dr. Michael Hoagburg, it was a childhood dental disaster. “I fell on my face and broke my two brand new front teeth in half,” he recalls. “My dentist was super kind and caring, which made me feel at ease.” Little did he know that this life-changing event would ignite a passion that would shape his future career.

“Over the years, I had so much work that I got really interested in dentistry. As I got older, I realized how much he helped me.” With root canals, veneers, and dental surgery, he saw how his dentist brought him healing and became intrigued by his profession. “I shadowed him in high school and in college.” He discovered how much he liked dentistry and wanted to help others, just as his dentist helped him.

Dr. Hoagburg attended the Indiana University School of Dentistry before working at Lowry Advanced Dentistry and now running Littleton Advanced Dentistry, where science, artistry, and empathy collide. “I’m very much a people person. Pretty extroverted,” he says. “I’ve always wanted to be helpful.” His dental emergency steered me into a field where he could genuinely make a difference.

The practice is a full-spectrum dental powerhouse. From general dentistry to surgical procedures like implants, root canals, extractions, and bone grafting, no smile challenge is too big. Emergencies? They’re a specialty. “Someone in pain and afraid? I’ve been there,” he says. “I know how to explain what’s happening and get them out of pain fast.”

Dr. Hoagburg treats patients of all ages, tailoring care from gentle, happy visits for kids to advanced adult procedures. For anxious patients, sedation options abound: nitrous, oral sedation, and IV sedation with a certified nurse anesthetist. “I’m certified for IV sedation, but I prefer to focus on the surgery while the nurse handles sedation,” he explains. “It keeps the patient safe and me focused.”

What sets Dr. Hoagburg apart is his patient-first philosophy. “I’m direct but empathetic. I make sure people feel heard first,” he says. “We map out their goals, educate them on options, and then figure out the best path forward. It’s about seeing the big picture and giving them choices.”

Experience + Expertise

Littleton Advanced Dentistry opened August 1. Dr. Hoagburg brings 12 years of dental experience, including eight years in his own practice, and continues a family tradition of dentistry. His father is an orthodontist, and both his younger brother and sister followed the dental path.

Outside the office, Dr. Hoagburg’s life is filled with adventure. A snowboarder at heart, he moved to Colorado from his home state of Indiana to be near the mountains. He plays soccer, enjoys hiking, and loves live music. His taste spans the 60s, 70s, 80s, alternative, hip hop, and EDM. And yes, he’s a devoted sports fan, first cheering for both the Pacers and the Colts, with the Nuggets and Broncos as VERY close seconds. With his partner of a year and a half and their adorable dog, the couple simply loves Colorado and all it has to offer.

For Dr. Hoagburg, dentistry is a blend of science, aesthetics, and human connection. What’s the best part? Meeting people, understanding their needs, and helping them leave with confidence.
